How to Use This Calculator

My Exact Age tab

Select your date of birth using the day, month, and year dropdowns. The calculator instantly shows your exact age in years, months, and days as of today. It also displays your age in total months, total weeks, and total days, along with a countdown to your next birthday.

Age on Date tab

Enter your date of birth and a target date to calculate your exact age on that specific date. This is useful for determining your age on a government exam cutoff date, school admission deadline, insurance application date, or any other reference point.

Govt Job Eligibility tab

Enter your date of birth, select the government exam (UPSC CSE, SSC CGL, IBPS PO, RBI Grade B, or SSC CHSL), and your category (General, OBC, SC/ST, or PwBD). The calculator computes your age on the exam-specific cutoff date and tells you whether you are eligible, how many years of eligibility remain, and the maximum attempts allowed for your category.

The Formula

Age is calculated by finding the difference between the date of birth and the target date in years, months, and days:

Exact Age Calculation:
Age = Target Date − Date of Birth

Step-by-step:
1. Years = Target Year − Birth Year (adjusted if birthday has not occurred yet)
2. Months = Target Month − Birth Month (adjusted if target day < birth day)
3. Days = Target Day − Birth Day (adjusted using previous month's length if negative)

Total Days:
Total Days = (Target Date − Birth Date) in calendar days
Total Weeks = Total Days ÷ 7
Total Months = (Years × 12) + Months

Government Job Eligibility:
Age on Cutoff = calcAge(DOB, Exam Cutoff Date)
Eligible = (Age ≥ Min Age) AND (Age < Max Age for Category)
Max Age (OBC) = General Max + 3 years
Max Age (SC/ST) = General Max + 5 years
Max Age (PwBD) = General Max + 10 years

Government exams in India use the "as on" concept — your age is evaluated on a specific cutoff date (e.g. 1 August for UPSC, 1 January for SSC), not on the date of application or the exam date. Even a single day over the age limit disqualifies a candidate.

Example

Priya — checking UPSC CSE eligibility (General category)

Priya was born on 15 August 1995. She wants to check if she is eligible for UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026 under the General category. The UPSC CSE cutoff date is 1 August of the exam year.

Step 1: Calculate age on cutoff date

Date of birth15 August 1995
UPSC cutoff date1 August 2026
Age on cutoff30 years, 11 months, 17 days

Step 2: Check eligibility

Minimum age (UPSC CSE)21 years
Maximum age (General)32 years
Priya's age30 years (within range)
Eligible?Yes

Step 3: Remaining eligibility

Years remaining~1 year of eligibility left
Max attempts (General)6 attempts

Priya is eligible for UPSC CSE 2026 with approximately 1 year of eligibility remaining under the General category. She should plan her remaining attempts carefully. If she had an OBC certificate, her upper age limit would extend to 35 years with 9 attempts.

FAQ

Government exams use the "as on" method — your age is calculated on a specific cutoff date, not the date you apply or appear for the exam. For example, UPSC CSE uses 1 August of the exam year as the cutoff, while SSC CGL and RBI Grade B use 1 January. Your age must fall within the prescribed range (minimum and maximum) on this specific date. Even being one day over the maximum age limit will result in disqualification, regardless of when you submitted your application.
Category-based age relaxation is provided by the Government of India for various competitive exams: OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) gets +3 years, SC/ST gets +5 years, and PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) gets +10 years relaxation on the upper age limit. For example, if the General category upper age limit for UPSC CSE is 32, an OBC candidate can appear up to age 35, an SC/ST candidate up to 37, and a PwBD candidate up to 42. These relaxations are as per DoPT (Department of Personnel & Training) orders and apply to most central government exams.
UPSC Civil Services Examination has attempt limits that vary by category: General category: 6 attempts, OBC: 9 attempts, SC/ST: unlimited attempts (until the age limit is reached). PwBD candidates also get unlimited attempts up to their extended age limit. An attempt is counted each time you appear for the Preliminary examination — simply filling the application form without appearing does not count as an attempt. Most other exams like SSC CGL, IBPS PO, and RBI Grade B do not have attempt limits.
Different exams have different cutoff dates for age calculation: UPSC CSE: 1 August of the exam year, SSC CGL: 1 January of the year in which the notification is issued, IBPS PO: 1 August of the exam year, RBI Grade B: 1 January of the exam year, SSC CHSL: 1 January of the year of notification. Always check the official notification for the specific year, as the cutoff date may occasionally change. The notification will clearly mention "age as on [date]" in the eligibility section.
If you were born on 29 February, your birthday in non-leap years is generally considered as 28 February for government purposes. This means in a non-leap year, you would be considered one year older on 28 February. For exam eligibility, your age is still calculated normally from your DOB (29 Feb) to the cutoff date. The one-day difference does not typically affect eligibility since age limits are in whole years. However, if you are on the borderline, verify with the specific exam notification or contact the conducting body for clarification.
