The Formula

The core conversion from hourly to annual salary:

Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × Hours per Week × Weeks per Year

Example: $25/hr × 40 hrs × 52 weeks = $52,000/year

Monthly = Annual ÷ 12
Biweekly = Annual ÷ 26
Weekly = Hourly × Hours per Week
Daily = Weekly ÷ 5

For overtime: OT Pay = Base Rate × OT Multiplier × OT Hours. The FLSA requires 1.5x pay for non-exempt employees working over 40 hours per week. Some states (e.g., California) also have daily overtime rules.

FAQ

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work per week, then by 52 (weeks in a year). For example, $25/hr × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 annual salary. If you have unpaid time off, reduce the weeks accordingly.
Overtime pay is taxed as regular income — the same federal brackets, FICA, and state rates apply. However, under the OBBBA (2025–2028), you may deduct up to $12,500 (single) or $25,000 (MFJ) of overtime income from your federal taxable income, effectively making that portion tax-free.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires employers to pay non-exempt employees at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Some states like California also require daily overtime (over 8 hours in a day) and double time (over 12 hours).
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (§102) introduced a federal income tax deduction for overtime pay: up to $12,500 for single filers or $25,000 for married filing jointly, effective for tax years 2025 through 2028. This means a portion of your overtime earnings won’t be subject to federal income tax, though FICA taxes still apply.
The estimate uses 2026 federal brackets, standard deduction, FICA rates, and simplified state tax rates. It does not include local taxes (e.g., NYC, Philadelphia), tax credits (EITC, child tax credit), or itemized deductions.
